ROXAN JURKEVITCH

Roxan Jurkevich is currently on leave from the post she has held since 1992 as Principal Percussionist/Assistant Principal Timpanist with the Orquestra Simfónica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC). A native of New York City, she holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from The Juilliard School, having studied with members of the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She performs regularly with the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, and at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia (OCV) with Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. She also performs frequently on Broadway. She has premiered solo and chamber works for percussion, teaches privately in New York and Barcelona, and gives Master classes throughout Europe and the U.S., as well as at various summer music festivals. Ms. Jurkevich has recorded for RCA Victor/BMG, EMI, Decca, Telarc, Koch, Harmonia Mundi and Naxos, with two of these albums winning Latin Grammy awards. She was supervising editor for the translation from English into Catalan of the book “How to Write for Percussion”, by Samuel Z. Solomon, and has often served as an interpreter for English-speaking artists at Spanish press conferences and percussion festivals.
